About

For almost ten years now, after thirty-five years of working professionally in the fields of performing arts and music, and merely dabbling in visual art activities on the side, I’ve turned my full attention to becoming a credible artist in the field of visual arts. I would describe my art as representational, introspective and spontaneous.  It reflects the many interests in my life, especially music, dance and nature.

Choosing a variety of mediums and methods, I’ve developed an overall definitive style in representational/abstract art – my main focus.  Of all the art forms I use, mixed media and collage have allowed me the greatest creative freedom and flexibility.  Plus, my whole family has been into re-cycling and conservation long before the “green” influence, so creating paintings from leftover materials is second nature to me.  The process for the bulk of my art is instinctive and the end result at times unpredictable.

Successful participation in juried fine art shows (Four Bridges Art Festival, Chattanooga; Panoply Art Festival, Huntsville; Art in the Park, Marietta; Gum Tree Art Festival, Tupelo; Shrimp Festival, Gulf Shores; Art Walk, Birmingham; to name a few), receiving several awards, active membership in two art associations, frequent requests to demonstrate and teach art, plus the sheer love for art and its creation have further fueled my desire to paint and exhibit my work.

An abbreviated list of accomplishments:

  • Painting “Nature’s Playground,” commissioned for the cover of the book Readings in Performance and Ecology (2012).
  • “Nature’s Playground” was chosen for display during the eco-theatre playwriting festival and symposium (Earth Matters On Stage) hosted by University of Oregon, 2010.
  • Paintings featured in Birmingham Arts Journal – Vol.4, Issue 3 and Vol. 6, Issue 1.
  • My art was used to advertise Mecca Fine Art Festival in Carrollton, Georgia in 2005.  “Music of the Spheres” was the entire front page cover of the Kudzu section of the Times-Georgian newspaper.  Photo of booth with customer on first page of the same newspaper and article within.  Interview with reporter aired on local TV station.
